Summary: |
The school romantic comedy revolves around a second-year high school student named Sorata Kanda who lives in Sakurasou, the dormitory for problem children at Sorata's school. One day, Mashiro Shiina —a cute girl who happens to be also a cosmopolitan, brilliant artist— moves into Sakurasou.
Sorata thinks to himself that he should protect Mashiro from the weirdos at Sakurasou, but Mashiro has a surprising secret: she has no idea how to take care of herself. She gets lost if she goes out, and her room is a complete mess. Sorata's dorm mates designate him as the "master" of Mashiro, and thus, an ordinary boy and a brilliant girl must live like "a master and his pet." |

A girl, Mashiro, is literally being treated like a pet because she's incapable of looking after herself. She is absolutely useless and an insult to womankind. Then we have Sorata, who is an extremely dislikeable protagonist, yet somehow has to act like he owns Mashiro, despite being useless himself. What sort of a message does this send out to young women nowadays? That it's okay for women to be submissive to men, even if the men in question are useless themselves. Honestly, the general sexualization of females in anime is one thing, but this is ( read more)

Honestly, the general sexualization of females in anime is one thing, but this is on a whole new level.
Sexist connotations aside, I would highly recommend Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo to people who want to lower their IQ by 50 points. The drama is disgustingly forced and nonsensical. The characters are so irritating that it makes the viewer have no sympathy for them whatsoever. JC Staff are absolutely incapable of animating anything that looks nice. Honestly, the art and animation in Sakurasou no Pet name Kanojo is revolting and vomit-inducing. The supposed "romance" is extremely clichéd and generic.
Overall, I cannot see why people would enjoy this when there are much better romance / slice of life / drama series out there. Why would you want to be satisfied with an inferior anime when you could just watch something much better? ( show less)
